Inlcusion doesn't have to start from scratch

The Berghausen playground shows how an existing play area can be made more inclusive step by step. Instead of completely
rebuilding the playground, existing structures were carefully adapted and complemented with new solutions.
The result is a play space that improves accessibility, orientation and participation while creating more opportunities for shared play and interaction

In this Video, we show the before-and-after tranformation and some of the key improvements:

  • accessible pathways using the HUCK Inclusion Mat
  • improved orientation through guide posts, guide ropes and high-contrast two-colour ropes
  • adapted play opportunities on the existing "Störtebeker" Pirate Ship
  • new seating and support options on the carousel and climbing pyramid
  • Original Huck Birdsnest Sombrero with integrated back support
  • additional opportunities for movement, interaction and shared play together,
these measures make the playground easier to access and navigate

Different entrances, play options and movement experiences enable more children to actively participate and play together.
The Berghausen project demonstrates that creating a more inclusive playground does not always require a complete rebuild.

Targeted adaptations can make a real difference – turning existing play spaces into places where more people can play, explore and connect together.
